"It's wonderful to have a little pot of remaining ESSER funding to provide this important need and SFPS Board of Education priority. We look forward to seeing the SFHS Band perform in their new attire at their home stadium and at other venues far and wide," said Superintendent Hilario "Larry" Chavez.
In making its request to the New Mexico Public Education Department to use ESSER funding to purchase the band uniforms, SFPS said, "Band performances help reignite our schools as centers of our community and culture, and in turn will boost school attendance. Here's a sneak peek into the amazing world of Willy Wonka! Support Atalaya students during their community performances THIS Wednesday and Thursday at 6 PM in the Atalaya Cafetorium, 721 Camino Cabra.
Today marks a special day at Atalaya Elementary as they warmly welcome the arrival of not one, but TWO Buddy Benches - a vibrant addition to their playgrounds, one dedicated to their PreK buddies and another for their amazing students in grades 1-6.
The journey to this moment began with a heartwarming story of empathy and kindness, sparked by the observant eyes of a first grader at Atalaya, Alyssa Kesler. Alyssa, moved by the sight of a friend playing alone, want to help not just her friend but any student in need of a buddy. Her idea? A space where anyone feeling lonely or in need of a playmate could find a friend.
And here we are, seeing Alyssa's vision come to life with our brand new Buddy Benches! These benches are more than just a place to sit; they're a beacon of friendship, a call to action for inclusion, and a reminder that no one should ever feel alone.
Let's use these benches to spread kindness, encourage new friendships, and build a community where everyone feels welcome. A huge thank you to everyone who supported this initiative, proving once again that great things happen when we come together for a good cause.
Remember, if you're looking for a friend to play with, head to the Buddy Bench - someone there is waiting to share a smile, a laugh, and maybe even a new adventure.
Here's to making every day a little brighter, one buddy at a time! 💖
