Due to snow and ice in some parts of the district, all schools will be on a 2-hour delay today, March 17th, 2023, to provide additional time for buses to safely transport students to schools. This means that buses will run 2 hours later than during normal times. If you drop your child off at school, please remember that staff will also be on a two-hour delay. Full day Pre-K programs are also on a two hour delay. Morning Pre-K programs have been canceled. Afternoon Pre-K programs will operate on a regular schedule.

On Friday, Salazar Elementary's second-grade teacher Ms. Darlene Fortier debuted a Kamishibai Theatre in the Salazar library! Kamishibai theatre is a form of Japanese storytelling that combines spoken narration with picture cards. While narrating a story, the performer or storyteller uses a wooden stage with two doors, known as a "butai," to reveal the picture cards one at a time. The cards are often brightly illustrated and contain scenes from the story being told. Kamishibai originated in the early 20th century as a form of street theatre in Japan, where performers would use the technique to entertain children and sell candy or other small items. The stories told through kamishibai often had moral lessons or were based on popular folklore. The Threate was made possible with the support of Partners in Education!

The Mother Tongue Project and Santa Fe Community College Student Parent Access (SPA) are having their S.P.A. event this Tuesday March 14, 2023 - 5:30-6:45 PM at the SFCC Library! The series includes: Monthly 1- 1.5-hour gatherings at SFCC Free childcare with pre-registration The 3/14/23 registration link is: https://forms.gle/qxyxXzSc8C2HBXed9 or see images for a QR Code Free pizza, soda, and conversation Practical, actionable information on a range of issues relevant to Santa Fe parents Sessions led by former student-parents who are now local professionals Information about SFCC registration and Mother Tongue Project's English class sequence, scheduled to launch fall 2023 Attendees do not have to be students to attend: SPA is open to all Santa Fe parents! By focusing on student parent access, however, we hope to support current student parents at any institution—and to invite parents considering post-secondary education to learn more about SFCC. Parenting students make up 20% of U.S. undergraduate students; and their education directly effects the well-being of generations. Their pathways through school can be especially challenging, though, because they’re juggling parenting, academics, and work; and it’s important for colleges to understand how to accommodate their unique needs!
