SFPS invites the public to attend the ribbon-cutting of the new, renovated Early College Opportunities High School (ECO) campus, located at 2301 W. Zia Road, on Thursday, April 18th at 4:30 p.m. The celebration, which is being held less than two years since SFPS broke ground for the renovation, will include tours of ECO's new classrooms, commons, gym, cafeteria and administrative wing.
"This is the culmination of a long-held vision to provide students seeking a trades-focused education with a state-of-the-art facility to support their career interests, from auto body and tech, to computer science, to art, design and architecture. We are tremendously grateful to Santa Fe's voters for supporting the renovation of this vital campus, which forms the foundation for transitioning students to high-quality careers and college after high school," said Superintendent Hilario "Larry" Chavez.
ECO’s campus renovation was made possible by funding from voter-approved general obligation bonds in 2017 and 2021. Formerly known as "VoTec" and located on the Santa Fe High School campus, the trades school was re-established and named Early College Opportunities (ECO) in 2017.
SFPS launched the ECO campus renovation on August 24th, 2022. The $21 million renovation has doubled classroom space, allowing for increased enrollment, and provides a gymnasium and new, single-entrance administrative building for improved site safety and security.
ECO students are offered multiple trades-focused college and career pathways, including auto body, auto tech, computer science, art, design & architecture, greenhouse and welding. Through postsecondary partners, including Santa Fe Community College, Institute of American Indian Arts and San Juan College, students take dual credit courses for certificates and degrees.
"The renovated ECO campus will offer students and educators a facility that will support taking their learning to new heights. We are excited for the community to see all that it has to offer," said Superintendent Chavez. "As ECO seniors near graduation day, they will have the unique distinction of being the first class to experience our shining, new facility."
