The office of Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernandez is thrilled to announce the commencement of the Congressional Art Competition 2024! With a rich history of showcasing exceptional artistic talent from our community's youth including a 2023 selection, Rio Ryan, a student at Early College Opportunities, we eagerly anticipate another year of inspiring submissions.

This competition invites students to express their creativity and interpretation of this year's theme, "What does Democracy mean to me?" Through visual arts, participants have the opportunity to explore and depict their perspectives on democracy in New Mexico and the United States.

  • Submission Deadline: Entries must be emailed with an attached image no later than Wednesday, April 17, 2024.

  • Attachments: Included in this announcement are essential documents such as the 2024 Art Submission Checklist, Rules for Students and Teachers, and the Student Release Form which requires a parental signature.

  • Competition Format: Due to the vast geographical spread of New Mexico and to ensure equitable participation, the competition will be conducted digitally.

  • Judges: Esteemed members of the District's professional art community will serve as judges for the competition.

The winning entry will receive the honor of being displayed for a year in a prestigious nationwide exhibit at the Capitol. The chosen artist will also be contacted by Congresswoman Leger Fernandez's office regarding further steps, including framing of the winning piece and its shipment to Washington, DC. Additionally, the winner will receive an invitation to attend a reception in person on June 27, 2024, in Washington, DC. Two airline tickets will be provided to facilitate this extraordinary opportunity.
