An exhibit opening will be held on Friday, March 15th, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the City of Santa Fe Community Gallery, located in the southeast corner of the Santa Fe Community Convention Center, 201 West Marcy. The event is free and open to the public. “ArtWorks Works!” will be on display through April 6, Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information call 505-955-6707.

“The City of Santa Fe is proud of its ongoing involvement with the ArtWorks program. The impact the program has on young people and their teachers is profound. It is our honor to host this exhibit as an opportunity to share this work with the community!” said the City of Santa Fe Arts & Culture Department.

ArtWorks was started by the City of Santa Fe Arts Commission in 2001 and is now a program of Partners. ArtWorks uses a teaching method adapted from the Lincoln Center Institute in New York City that hires and trains teaching artists to present classroom workshops around live experiences in five different disciplines—poetry, music, dance, theater and visual art. The “ArtWorks Works!” exhibit features works produced by Santa Fe public school students who participated in artist-led museum tours and classroom workshops. Lesson plans for the workshops are designed to connect the art to the classroom curriculum, thus nurturing a deeper understanding of the academic material through creative activities. This year students attended a variety of arts events including exhibits at the New Mexico Museum of Art; the IAIA Museum of Contemporary Native Arts, the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, and the Vladem Contemporary Museum.

The Community Gallery supports local artists, promotes artistic excellence, and strengthens the local arts economy through diverse exhibits, educational and professional development programs for local artists, and public engagement activities. Santa Fe residents and visitors can experience quality artwork by New Mexico artists and enjoy diverse educational offerings.

The Community Gallery, located inside the Santa Fe Community Convention Center, 201 West Marcy, is open Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information call 505-955-6707.

The ArtWorks program is generously supported by the City of Santa Fe Arts and Culture Department, City of Santa Fe Children’s Youth Commission, New Mexico Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Hestia Fund, the Frost Foundation, the Susan K. Black Foundation and many individual donors.
