Redistricting
What is "redistricting"?
Redistricting is the adjustment of school board election district boundaries to account for population shifts. It is the way in which we change districts to determine who represents us. This is NOT the rezoning of schools, the change is only to the boundaries of school board members.
Redistricting is required after each decennial census and adjustments are based on current census data.
When do the new districts go into effect?
The SFPS Board will adopt new board member districts by December 2022.
How can I provide feedback?
If you would like to provide feedback regarding redistricting, please email redistricting@sfps.k12.nm.us.
Proposed Changes
Concept A

The goal of Concept A is to minimally change the boundaries of current districts to equalize the population and retain two Hispanic-majority districts.
Under current districts, District 3 is too large and needs to lose population. In Concept A, District 5 takes in that additional population and keeps the entire boundary between Districts 3 and 5 along the river.
Concept A also works to maintain two Hispanic-majority districts by moving one precinct between St Michaels and 2 nd St from District 1 into District 5. This requires the southern part of the boundary between Districts 1 and 5 to shift west from St Francis to Yucca St to keep the population equal.
The changes to current districts under Concept A are as follows:
District 1 moves west into District 5 from St Francis Dr to Yucca St between I-25 and Siringo Rd.
District 4 moves north into District 3 from Agua Fria St to the Santa Fe River between S Meadows Rd and Caja del Oro Grant Rd. Unites both sides of Agua Fria St.
District 5 moves north into District 3 from Agua Fria St to the Santa Fe River and W Alameda St between Camino Alire and Alejandro St. Also uniting both sides of Agua Fria St.
District 5 moves east into District 1 to Cerrillos Rd, 2 nd St and the railroad tracks
Concept B

The object of Concept B is to minimally change the boundaries of current districts to equalize population while keeping more neighborhoods together and keeping boundaries between districts along major thoroughfares and features wherever possible.
Under Concept B, the Hyde Park neighborhood remains whole in District 3 and the southern boundary of District 3 follows the river, Agua Fria St, and Alameda St.
Both sides of Airport Rd are united in District 4 which stays west of Cerrillos.
District 5 stays east of Cerrillos and its eastern boundary with District 1 running straight north along Yucca St, Llano St, St Michaels Dr, and Osage Ave.
The boundaries of District 2 do not change under Concept B.
Concept B retains two Hispanic-majority districts
The changes to current districts under Concept B are as follows:
District 1 moves west into District 5 from Baca St to Osage Ave between Agua Fria St and Cerrillos Rd.
District 1 moves west into District 5 from the railroad tracks and St Francis Dr to Llano St and Yucca St between St Michaels Dr and I-25.
District 3 moves south into District 1 from Hyde Park Rd to E Alameda St and the Santa Fe River east of Sandoval St. Keeps both sides of Hyde Park Rd in District 3.
District 3 moves south into District 1 from W Alameda St to Agua Fria St between Camino Alire and S Guadalupe St.
District 3 moves south into District 5 from the Santa Fe River to Agua Fria St between Siler Rd and Alejandro St.
District 4 moves north into District 3 from Airport Rd to the Santa Fe River between Highway 599 and Jemez Rd. Unifies neighborhoods on both sides of Airport Rd and ensures that more of District 3 is bounded by the Santa Fe River.
District 5 moves west into District 4 from Lopez Ln to Jemez Rd, Rufina St, and an alleyway behind a neighborhood between Agua Fria St and Airport Rd.
District 5 moves west into District 4 from Richards Ave to Cerrillos Rd between Rodeo Rd and I-25 extending District 5 further along Cerrillos.
District 5 moves north into District 3 from Agua Fria St to the Santa Fe River between Caja del Oro Grant Rd and S Meadows Rd.
Concept C

The objective of Concept C is to align board member districts with the schools they are assigned to represent.
Concept C has one Hispanic-majority district and two majority minority districts.
Under Concept C District 3 moves south into District 1 to take in Mandela International Magnet and Aspen Community. This requires District 1 to move north into District 3 to take the northern part of Hyde Park and Bishop’s Lodge, uniting those neighborhoods.
District 2 moves north into the City of Santa Fe to pick up Desert Sage Academy. To offset losing population to District 2, District 5 takes on some additional population north and south of St Michaels but stays west of St Francis.
District 4 moves east to Siler Rd to pick up the Nye Early Childhood Center and the boundary between Districts 4 and 5 moves west from Richards Ave to Cerrillos Rd to offset that additional population.
The changes to current districts under Concept C are as follows:
District 1 moves north into District 3 from Hyde Park Rd to N St Francis Dr, Circle Dr, Bishops Lodge Rd, and Little Tesuque Creek. Keeps the neighborhoods on both sides of Hyde Park Rd and Bishops Lodge Rd together.
District 1 moves north into District 3 from W Alameda St to Paseo de Peralta and N Guadalupe St between S St Francis Dr and S Guadalupe St.
District 1 moves west into District 5 from Baca St to Osage Ave between Acequia de Los Pinos and Cerrillos Rd.
District 2 moves north into District 1 from I-25 to Arroyo de Los Chamisos between St Francis Dr and Old Pecos Trl.
District 3 moves south into District 1 from W Alameda St to Agua Fria St between Camino Alire and St Francis Dr.
District 3 moves south into District 5 from the Santa Fe River and Agua Fria St to Agua Fria St and Acequia de Los Pinos between Siler Rd and Baca St.
District 4 moves north into District 3 from Agua Fria St to the Santa Fe River between S Meadows Rd and Caja del Oro Grant Rd.
District 4 moves east into District 5 from Lopez Ln to Siler Rd from the Santa Fe River to Cerrillos Rd, Zafarano Dr, and Rufina St.
District 5 moves east into District 1 from St. Michael’s Dr to 2 nd St between Cerrillos Rd and the railroad tracks.
District 5 moves north into District 1 from the railroad tracks to St. Michael’s Dr between S St Francis Dr and Calle Contento.
