SFPS today announced the appointment of John Sais as principal of El Dorado Community School starting on July 1st.   Mr. Saiz, who is director of student culture and CTE for the Bernalillo Public Schools, was previously principal of Bernalillo Middle School, where he worked daily with staff on creating a positive campus culture to ensure student success.  In addition, SFPS announced the appointment of Roxanne Starr-Trujillo as El Dorado’s new assistant principal.

“As principal, John Sais will continue El Dorado’s history of transformational leadership.  We are excited by his extensive knowledge of best practices, which will uplift teaching, and ability to excite and motivate students to seek new heights in learning each day.  Roxanne Starr-Trujillo will be a wonderful support and brings award-winning qualities to her role,” said Superintendent Hilario “Larry” Chavez.  “We greatly appreciate the efforts of outgoing Principal Angelique Armijo-Ortiz.”

Sais said, “I’m excited to be part of the El Dorado community and supporting our students.  Having 20 years in education, and 15 of those as an administrator, I understand the key to success is relationships and I look forward to working with a great staff and an incredible community.”

Sais has served as Bernalillo’s director of student culture and CTE since July 2021, was principal of Bernalillo Middle School from 2018-2021 and was assistant principal at the school for two years, from 2016-2018, before becoming principal.  He was assistant principal at Valencia Middle School in the Los Lunas Public Schools from 2014-2016, associate director of Gilbert L. Sena Charter High School in Albuquerque from 2012-2014 and is the former dean of students at Emerson Elementary School in the Albuquerque Public Schools, where he served from 2011-2012, and Albuquerque Talent Development Secondary Charter School, from 2008-2011.

He holds a Master of Science in Physical Education (Sports Administration) from the University of New Mexico (UNM), a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from New Mexico Highlands University and a Bachelor of Science in Education from New Mexico State University.

Starr-Trujillo served as assistant principal at Sweeney Elementary in 2021-2022 and received a Teacher Who Inspires award from Partners in Education in 2021.

From 2017-2021, she served as a special education teacher at Atalaya Elementary School, from 2014-2017 she was special education-lead teacher at Nina Otero Community School and from 2010-2014 she was special education-contact teacher at Amy Biehl Community School.

Starr-Trujillo holds a Bachelor of Science-Elementary and Special Education and a Master of Business Administration-Educational Leadership from UNM.
